Topchic and Wufangzhai pivot business strategies toward meat and daily food products
Topchic is shifting its strategic focus from egg products to the pork and meat processing sectors. Following a decline in first-half profits due to weak meat and pork prices, the company reported a recovery starting in the second quarter. Chairman Zheng Wuyue announced plans to expand the company's pig farming scale from the current 400,000 heads to 700,000 by year-end, with a long-term goal of 1.2 million heads. Additionally, a new meat processing plant in Taoyuan is expected to begin trial operations by the end of the year.
Wufangzhai reported a slight increase in net profit to 200 million yuan despite a decline in total revenue. The company is utilizing profits from its seasonal zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) business to fund its expansion into daily consumption products, such as rice balls, through channels like Sam's Club. This move aims to leverage existing production lines to mitigate the risks associated with the shrinking seasonal gift market.
