Tope Alabi threatens legal action over defamation claims

Nigerian gospel singer and evangelist Tope Alabi has threatened legal action against individuals publishing and circulating false claims linking her to the death of gospel minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, known as Toluwanisings.

Her legal team, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, issued a public notice and a cease-and-desist letter targeting allegations of involvement in murder and ritual killings. The lawyers specifically addressed a Canada-based Facebook page, Pastor Tayo Ministries, demanding a retraction and apology within 24 hours. They stated that the allegations are false in every respect and that Alabi has privately and publicly mourned the deceased.

The legal notice warns that liability for defamation extends not only to the original creators of such statements but also to anyone who repeats, reposts, shares, or amplifies the content on social media. The firm emphasized that using anonymous or pseudonymous accounts does not provide immunity from legal consequences and noted that Alabi may seek court orders to identify those responsible through service providers.
