Topeka launches incentive program to attract new residents

The city of Topeka, Kansas, has implemented the ‘Choose Topeka’ program to attract skilled professionals and new residents to Shawnee County. Managed by the Greater Topeka Partnership and GO Topeka, the initiative offers financial incentives to help offset relocation and housing costs.

Qualified applicants can receive up to $15,000 for the purchase of a primary residence or up to $10,000 for a one-year rental agreement. To be eligible, individuals must secure full-time employment at a company based in Shawnee County with a minimum annual salary of $50,000. Candidates must also possess legal authorization to work in the United States and apply before permanently relocating.

The program aims to address a trend where a significant portion of the local workforce resides outside the county. By incentivizing residency, the city seeks to strengthen the local economy and community ties. Housing costs in Topeka remain significantly lower than the U.S. national average, with typical home values around $195,300.
