Topgolf facility in New York faces scrutiny after two raptors become entangled in netting

Two birds of prey have become entangled in the netting at a Topgolf facility in Holtsville, New York, within a single week. The most recent incident involved an osprey, a federally protected species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which managed to free itself from the netting.

This follows an incident on August 19, where a hawk was trapped approximately 100 feet above the ground for more than 24 hours before breaking free. Animal rescuer Frankie Floridia of Strong Island Animal Rescue noted that the osprey's escape could have resulted in death due to fatigue and subsequent falls.

A Topgolf manager stated that the New York State DEC has been on-site, though the company has not provided further comment. Rescuers are calling for improved safety measures, citing concerns that such entanglements may be a recurring issue at various Topgolf locations.
