Topolino Magazine expands dialect project to four Italian regions
Topolino Magazine is concluding its ‘operazione dialetti’ (dialect operation) project by releasing special editions in four final Italian regions: Sardinia, Marche, Abruzzo, and Trentino-Alto Adige. Starting September 30, issue number 3697 will feature the story ‘Topolino e l’intralcio (in)volontario’, written by Marco Boschi and illustrated by Luca Usai.
The issue will be available in four specific linguistic versions: Sardinian, Anconetano, Aquilano, and Ladin. To ensure regional relevance, dialect versions will be distributed primarily in local newsstands, while the standard Italian version will be available elsewhere. All versions can also be found in comic book stores and online.
Panini Comics collaborated with linguistics professor Riccardo Regis from the University of Turin and a team of specialized linguists to ensure accuracy. Editorial director Alex Bertani noted that the project, launched in January 2025, has successfully raised awareness regarding the preservation of local languages and dialects.
