Topolobampo activists protest Proman ammonia plant project
Members of the “¡Aquí No!” movement in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, report that their 152-day resistance against a proposed ammonia plant in Ohuira Bay has successfully halted construction. The project is being led by Gas y Petroquímica de Occidente (GPO), a subsidiary of the Swiss group Proman.
Activists Claudia Quintero and Melina Sandoval stated that the project faces significant social opposition due to potential environmental, economic, and cultural impacts. They noted that industrial structures, including reactors and tanks, are currently showing advanced signs of corrosion and deterioration due to exposure to salt air and lack of maintenance while construction remains suspended.
