Topuklu Yaylası Sky Observation Festival concludes in Denizli

The Beyağaç Topuklu Yaylası Sandras Ethem Hoca Sky Observation Festival has concluded in Denizli, Turkey. Organized through a collaboration between the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality and Beyağaç Municipality, the week-long event brought together thousands of amateur and professional astronomers, campers, and nature enthusiasts.

Topuklu Yaylası, a certified ‘Dark Sky Region’ due to its lack of light pollution, served as an open-air laboratory for the participants. The festival featured an extensive academic program, including panels and lectures led by prominent scientists such as honorary guest Prof. Dr. Ethem Derman. Topics covered included the cosmological evolution of the universe, meteor showers, and the physical origins of the Perseid meteor shower.

In addition to theoretical discussions, the event provided practical training in astrophotography, specifically focusing on deep-space photography. Other sessions included solar observations using specialized equipment and documentary screenings, aimed at making astronomy accessible to people of all ages.
