Tor Project launches Snowflake Volunteer Android app to bypass censorship

The Tor Project has partnered with Android app studio Bloco to release Snowflake Volunteer, a new standalone Android application designed to help users bypass internet censorship.

While the Tor Browser is often targeted by governments through the blocking of relay nodes, Snowflake provides an alternative connection method. The app disguises Snowflake connections as standard video calls using the WebRTC protocol, which is typically not restricted by censors. By installing the app, users can donate a portion of their connection to help others in restricted regions access the Tor network. These connections act as short-lived bridges that are difficult for authorities to block consistently.
