Toray Group factory explosion in Otsu injures three

An explosion occurred at a factory belonging to a Toray Group company in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, on the afternoon of October 5, 2026. The incident took place at the Toray Shiga Works located in Sonoyama 1-chome.

Three people were transported to the hospital following the blast: a man in his 30s and two women in their 40s and 60s. The man sustained serious injuries, including a fractured spine, while the two women were reported to have no injuries. At the time of the explosion, the man was reportedly performing machine maintenance in a room adjacent to the blast site.

Police and fire departments are currently investigating the cause of the explosion by interviewing employees and examining the scene.
