Torchy’s Tacos sued over cow tooth found in taco

A customer is suing the Texas-based restaurant chain Torchy’s Tacos after discovering a cow tooth in a takeout order. The incident occurred on June 9 at the company’s South Congress location in Austin, where the customer ordered a “Democrat” taco containing beef barbacoa.

The lawsuit alleges negligence, claiming the restaurant should have implemented safety standards to prevent non-food items from reaching consumers. The plaintiff’s attorney, Scott Vasquez, noted the potential choking hazard and stated the client sought medical attention following the discovery. The lawsuit seeks a settlement of up to $250,000.

Torchy’s Tacos confirmed the object was a cow tooth, explaining that it originated from the natural beef cheek used to make the barbacoa. The company stated that while such occurrences are rare, they have partnered with their supplier to reinforce internal procedures and prevent future incidents.
