Torino Egyptian Museum marks 200 years with Jeremy Irons‑hosted documentary

The Museo Egizio di Torino, founded in 1824 by King Carlo Felice di Savoia as the world’s first museum devoted exclusively to ancient Egypt, celebrated its bicentennial in 2024. A new documentary titled “Uomini e Dei. Le meraviglie del Museo Egizio” aired on Sky Arte on 1 August 2024, narrated by Oscar‑winner Jeremy Irons. The film premiered at the 41st Torino Film Festival and was directed by Michele Mally with a screenplay by Matteo Moneta. It features contributions from museum director Christian Greco and foundation president Evelina Christillin, and includes original music composed by Remo Anzovino and performed by the Orchestra Sinfonica Accademia Naon under Valter Sivilotti. The documentary explores the museum’s collections, its historic archaeological expeditions, and ancient Egyptian funerary practices, highlighting the institution’s continued scientific and cultural significance.
