Torino appoints Ignazio Abate as head coach

Torino Football Club has confirmed the appointment of former Milan defender Ignazio Abate as the new head coach. After a series of interviews with candidates such as Alberto Gilardino, Alberto Aquilani and Ivan Juric, the club chose Abate, offering him a two‑year contract that runs until 2028. The decision was reached following a second meeting between the Torino management and Abate, who previously coached Juve Stabia.

In parallel, Torino continues to monitor Croatian centre‑back Martin Erlic as a potential transfer target. Erlic, currently under contract with FC Midtjylland until 2030, is valued by the Danish club at around €10 million. Torino’s scouting staff see him as a reliable defender with Serie A experience, and the club may pursue his signing after the upcoming World Cup.

Both moves are part of Torino’s broader strategy to strengthen the squad and coaching staff ahead of the 2026/27 season.
