Torino legends urge patience for coach Ignazio Abate

Former Torino defenders Silvano Benedetti and Roberto Policano have expressed support for head coach Ignazio Abate, urging patience as the team navigates a period of transition and tactical experimentation.

Benedetti noted that the squad has undergone significant changes and emphasized that Abate needs time to integrate new players and find a definitive tactical setup. He observed the coach's willingness to shift between defensive systems, such as a three-man defense and a four-man line, as a positive sign of adaptability. Benedetti also suggested that club president Urbano Cairo likely anticipated the need for a transition period, particularly given the focus on developing younger players.

Policano echoed the call for confidence, describing the team's early-season performances as inconsistent rather than failures. He highlighted the technical quality of Nikola Vlasic, despite a slow start, and praised new signing Daniel Braganca for his talent. Regarding club leadership, Policano acknowledged the stability provided by Cairo while addressing the complexities of comparing the current era to the club's successful period in the 1990s.
