Torino police dismantle illegal shisha tobacco laboratory

Italian financial police, known as the Fiamme Gialle, have dismantled an illegal tobacco production and distribution network operating in the Piedmont region. The investigation began in Turin after authorities intercepted a van in the Borgo Nuovo district containing approximately 260 kilograms of tobacco hidden under old furniture and upholstery.

Following the initial seizure, investigators traced the operation to an apartment in Alba, Cuneo, which had been converted into a clandestine laboratory. Police seized an additional 65 kilograms of packaged contraband intended for shisha bars and private clubs in Turin. The raid also resulted in the confiscation of the entire production chain, including mixers, packaging machines, raw tobacco, various flavorings, and food-grade glycerin.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the operation. Authorities estimate that the illegal sale of the seized goods would have generated illicit profits exceeding 40,000 euros.
