Tornado threat increases for Georgia and South Carolina

The Storm Prediction Center has identified an increasing potential for isolated tornadoes across portions of eastern Georgia and central to southern South Carolina. The threat is expected to rise through the morning and late afternoon hours, with the highest probability of tornadoes occurring as storms make landfall along the South Carolina coastline.

This weather pattern is being influenced by the remnants of Hurricane Isaias. While the hurricane is weakening and moving toward southeast Alabama, its remnants are contributing to boundary-layer destabilization. Supercells along the coast are currently exhibiting persistent low-level rotation, making them the most likely sources of tornadoes.

Additionally, north Florida has faced an ongoing tornado threat under Tornado Watch 678, though the intensity of convection in that region is expected to weaken slowly through the overnight hours.
