Tornadoes confirmed in Manitoba and Saskatchewan

Multiple tornadoes were confirmed across Manitoba and Saskatchewan following a severe storm system on Sunday. Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Northern Tornadoes Project are investigating the activity.

In Manitoba, tornadoes were observed near Elkhorn and Kola, approximately 300 kilometres west of Winnipeg. Residents in Kola reported significant storm damage; one local farmer noted that most of his farm buildings were destroyed, though his house remained intact. The region has experienced heavy rainfall, with Kola receiving 74 millimetres on Sunday.

In Saskatchewan, a confirmed tornado touched down near Maryfield, roughly 250 km east of Regina, around 4 p.m. Sunday. Investigators are also looking into reports of a tornado near Kelso.

According to Environment Canada, Manitoba has seen higher than average tornado activity this summer, with at least 11 confirmed tornadoes compared to the typical annual total of seven or eight.
