Tornesch ends controlled area status at train station

Authorities in Tornesch are ending the designation of the local train station and surrounding streets as controlled areas following the success of the “Special Organizational Structure for Subjective Security” (BAO SuSi) initiative.

The measure, which began on July 15, 2026, was implemented due to disproportionately high crime rates in the area. An evaluation of the period between July 15 and October 13, 2026, revealed a significant decrease in criminal activity. Notably, there were no recorded instances of bodily harm, robbery, or attacks on law enforcement officers during this window, with only one reported threat.

While property crimes remained, including 20 recorded thefts primarily targeting e-scooters, the overall decline in violent crime has led officials to conclude that the formal control zone status will not be extended. The measure will officially end on October 15, 2026. The police intend to maintain an increased presence in the station area to ensure continued public safety and will regularly reassess the situation.
