Toro begins five-day Vendimia festival celebrating wine heritage

The city of Toro has launched its annual Vendimia festival, a five-day celebration running from October 8 to 12 that highlights the region's viticultural heritage. The festivities began with an inaugural ceremony at the Teatro Latorre, featuring former footballer Eusebio Sacristán as the keynote speaker. Sacristán used his professional experience to advocate for perseverance within the wine sector.

Mayor Carlos Rodríguez emphasized the economic importance of the industry, noting that Toro's wine serves as a primary driver of employment and regional identity. He also highlighted the need to encourage younger generations to remain in the agricultural sector.

The festival includes various sporting events, such as the XXIX Kilómetro Urbano de la Vendimia. In this race, David Campo Alonso and Nerea Miguel emerged as the absolute category winners. The event also saw significant participation from the Vino Toro Caja Rural club, which secured 31 podium positions across multiple categories.
