Toronto airport gold heist: charges dropped for two, others face separate trials
Legal proceedings continue regarding the 2023 gold heist at Toronto Pearson International Airport, where more than 6,500 gold bars valued at approximately C$20 million and millions in cash were stolen from an Air Canada cargo facility.
Prosecutors have dropped charges against Amit Jalota and Ali Raza, who were accused of possessing stolen gold or currency linked to the crime. Their lawyers stated the men have maintained their innocence throughout the process.
Two other individuals, Parmpal Sidhu and Archit Grover, will face separate trials following a court decision to sever their prosecutions. Sidhu, a former Air Canada warehouse worker, and Grover, who allegedly owned the truck used in the theft, will each have their cases decided by a judge rather than a jury. Both men have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
