Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly returns as team opens season against Montreal Alouettes
The Toronto Argonauts began the 2026 CFL season with a 37‑30 loss to the Montreal Alouettes. Quarterback Chad Kelly, back after missing the entire 2025 season, threw for 445 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, marking his third career 400‑yard passing game.
Mike Miller made his head‑coaching debut for the Argonauts, earning a successful coach’s challenge but also witnessed a brief heated exchange with Kelly during the game.
Toronto welcomed back several members of its 2024 Grey Cup roster, including defensive lineman Ralph Holley and safety Robert Priester, and signed receiver Kevin Mital to a contract extension through 2027. The Alouettes entered the game with an adjusted lineup due to injuries, while both teams dealt with a handful of players on the injury list.
