Toronto Blue Jays assess performance after last-place finish

Following a season that saw the Toronto Blue Jays finish last in the American League East with a 79-83 record, General Manager Ross Atkins stated that “everything needs to be assessed” regarding the team's performance. The club's decline from a World Series appearance the previous year was attributed to injuries, underperformance in hitting categories, and notable roster departures.

Despite the team's overall struggles, three Blue Jays players have been named nominees for the 2026 All-MLB Team: closer Louis Varland, starting pitcher Dylan Cease, and third baseman Kazuma Okamoto. Varland, in particular, emerged as an elite closer after taking over the role mid-season, recording a career-high 35 saves.
