Toronto Blue Jays claim Paul Sewald off waivers from Diamondbacks
The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-handed reliever Paul Sewald off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. To accommodate Sewald on the 40-man roster, the Blue Jays placed Jake Bloss on the 60-day injured list. Sewald, a 10-year veteran, recorded 24 saves for Arizona this season but struggled recently with a 6.23 ERA in 45 appearances.
In other MLB action, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 7-0, led by Payton Tolle’s eight-inning shutout and a grand slam from Caleb Durbin. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees prepare to face the Blue Jays in an upcoming series, where Paul Goldschmidt has the opportunity to tie Hall of Famer Johnny Bench for 67th on the all-time home run list.
Additionally, the Seattle Mariners have claimed catcher Willie MacIver off waivers following his designation for assignment by the Blue Jays. MacIver, a former University of Washington player, has shown strong offensive production in Triple-A environments.
