Boston Red Sox end five-game skid with 7-0 shutout of Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox completed a four-game series in Toronto, with the Blue Jays winning three of the four matchups.

In the series finale on Thursday, the Red Sox ended a five-game losing streak with a 7-0 shutout victory. Rookie pitcher Payton Tolle delivered a dominant performance, pitching eight innings and allowing only two hits while striking out four. Caleb Durbin provided the offensive spark with an eighth-inning grand slam. The game also marked a milestone for Max Scherzer, who became only the 18th player in MLB history to reach 3,000 career strikeouts and 3,000 career innings.

Earlier in the series, the Blue Jays secured two wins, including a 6-4 victory on Wednesday. That game was decided by a five-run eighth-inning rally fueled by Kazuma Okamoto and Myles Straw, following a costly error by Boston's Willson Contreras. The Blue Jays also won a 5-3 contest on Tuesday, highlighted by an impressive performance from rookie Brett Bateman.

On the roster front, the Red Sox placed pitcher Garrett Whitlock on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation, recalling Greg Weissert from Triple-A Worcester to fill his spot.
