Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball Jesus Sanchez Rudy Martin Jr. Designated for assignment

The Toronto Blue Jays have designated outfielder Jesus Sanchez for assignment and recalled outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. from Triple-A Buffalo.

Sanchez, 28, has appeared in 99 games this season, batting .260 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs. His removal follows recent defensive struggles and a batting slump where he hit .216 over his last 102 at-bats. Sanchez was originally acquired by Toronto from the Houston Astros in February.

Martin, 30, will make his first Major League Baseball appearance. A former 25th-round draft pick in 2014, Martin has spent much of his career in the minor leagues, including stints in the Mexican League and independent ball. This season, he batted .253 with three home runs and 12 stolen bases in 27 games for the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate.
