Toronto Caribbean Carnival Parade Celebrates Emancipation Day with Thousands of Participants

The Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade took place on August 1, winding through Exhibition Place and along Lake Shore Boulevard West. The event, one of North America’s largest Caribbean festivals, coincided with Emancipation Day, marking the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. Organisers highlighted the parade’s role in honoring Caribbean heritage, community freedom, and the cultural diversity of Toronto.

To accommodate the crowds, GO Transit and the Toronto Transit Commission added extra services and detoured routes. GO trains served Exhibition GO Station on the Lakeshore West line, while the TTC increased frequency on several subway and streetcar lines and implemented temporary road closures on Lake Shore Boulevard West, Fort York Boulevard, and surrounding streets from early Saturday morning until early Sunday morning.
