Toronto certifies 362 candidates for 2026 municipal election

The Toronto City Clerk has officially certified 362 candidates for the 2026 municipal election. The certification follows the close of the nomination period, which includes several candidates elected by acclamation for various school board trustee positions.

The mayoral race features 53 candidates, including incumbent Olivia Chow, former Conservative cabinet minister Chris Alexander, and east-end councillor Brad Bradford. The election for the city's 25 council seats is expected to include several competitive battles, particularly in wards where incumbents are not seeking re-election or where high-profile political figures are entering the fray.

Election day is scheduled for Monday, October 26, with advance voting taking place from October 6 to October 11.
