Toronto FC defeats Inter Miami 2-1 despite Messi goal
Inter Miami suffered a 1-2 home defeat against Toronto FC in a Major League Soccer match, extending their winless streak to five games across all competitions. Despite a goal from Lionel Messi, which marked his 14th of the season, the Florida-based club could not overcome two quick goals from Toronto.
Toronto FC secured the victory through goals from Josh Sargent and Derrick Etienne Jr. Sargent’s goal was his fourth since joining the club during the winter transfer window. While Inter Miami controlled much of the possession, they struggled to convert opportunities in the final third, with Luis Suarez and German Berterame missing key chances.
The loss further impacts Inter Miami’s standing in the Eastern Conference, as Nashville has extended its lead at the top of the table to 10 points. Inter Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos noted that the recent string of poor results is beginning to affect the players' mental state.
