Toronto festival host expects more events despite tighter studio budgets

Charles Khabouth, a prominent Toronto restaurateur and nightclub owner, anticipates an increase in the number of events hosted during the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Khabouth, who operates under the Ink Entertainment banner, reported that while last year saw 46 events, the current schedule has already reached 51, with a potential total of 60 events due to last-minute bookings.

Despite the higher volume of events, Khabouth noted a shift in spending habits among Hollywood studios and streaming services. He observed that budgets have become significantly tighter since the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, “No one is throwing money around like they used to.” He characterized current studio spending as highly calculated and strictly budgeted, marking a departure from the more lavish premiere parties of the past.

The increase in scheduled events is expected to benefit various local sectors in Toronto, including hospitality staff, food and alcohol suppliers, security, and event logistics providers such as lighting and red carpet installers.
