Toronto Film Festival Announces World Premieres Including “I Play Rocky” and “Glaxo”

The Toronto International Film Festival, running from September 10‑20, has unveiled its slate of special‑session premieres. Among the headline world premieres are Peter Farrelly’s “I Play Rocky,” starring Anthony Ippolito as a young Sylvester Stallone, and “Glaxo,” adapted from Benjamín Naishtat’s novel and featuring Lali Espósito, Esteban Lamothe and Marcelo Subiotto.

The festival will also screen Gael García Bernal’s “Hombre al agua,” Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo’s “La bola negra,” and Pedro Almodóvar’s “Amarga Navidad.” A documentary, “Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend,” about Canadian Formula 1 driver Gilles Villeneuve, will close the gala.

Additional world‑premiere titles include Courtney Cox’s “Evil Genius,” Rebel Wilson’s “Girl Group,” Chris Rock’s “Misty Green,” and “Up Against It,” directed by Trudie Styler and starring Antonio Banderas. The lineup also features works by Wayne Wang, Anton Corbijn and Hur Jin‑Ho, among others, highlighting a diverse international program for the Canadian festival.
