Toronto International Film Festival attracts major cinematic talent

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has established itself as a critical launchpad for the Hollywood awards season. Its strategic timing in mid-September, following the Venice Film Festival, allows it to showcase premier films that often lead to Academy Award recognition. The festival's non-competitive nature and its location near both New York and Europe contribute to its status as a major global hub for filmmakers and cinephiles.

Renowned director Guillermo del Toro has praised the festival, noting that Toronto possesses the best film-loving audience in the world. Del Toro, who has filmed several projects in the city, highlights the city's cultural appeal beyond the cinematic event itself.

Actor and director Gael García Bernal also discussed his experiences at major festivals like Toronto and Cannes. Following a successful premiere in Venice for his film ‘Hombre al agua’, Bernal reflected on the intensive process of serving as author, protagonist, and director, while also touching upon the importance of revitalizing the Mexican film industry.
