Toronto International Film Festival launches inaugural industry market
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has introduced its first official industry marketplace, known as TIFF: The Market. This new initiative, which launched alongside the festival, provides a dedicated space for the buying, selling, and financing of films, series, and other screen projects. The market is supported by a three-year, $23 million CAD investment from the Government of Canada and Telefilm Canada.
The inaugural market featured over 130 buyers from 49 countries and more than 150 sales agencies. It offered 650 screening slots, 120 exhibitor spaces, and an Innovation Hub focused on AI, XR, and immersive projects. This development establishes a North American counterpart to established markets like the Cannes Marché du Film.
In addition to industry developments, the festival hosted the world premiere of the Prime Video original series ‘Carrie’, directed by Mike Flanagan. The series, based on the Stephen King novel, debuted its first two episodes at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. The eight-episode series is scheduled for global streaming on October 7, 2026.
