Toronto Maple Leafs consider signing veteran forward Claude Giroux

General manager John Chayka has overhauled the Toronto Maple Leafs roster this offseason, adding several players and still exploring a “difference maker.” NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said the club may still make a major move and specifically linked Toronto to free‑agent forward Claude Giroux, noting the team may have offered the most money.

Giroux, 38, recorded 49 points last season, his lowest total since the 2020‑21 campaign. Adding him would make the Leafs the oldest roster in the NHL, raising concerns about speed, the potential regression of older players such as John Tavares and Morgan Rielly, and the team’s overall competitiveness.
