Toronto Maple Leafs eye free-agent forward Mason Marchment

Pending unrestricted free agent Mason Marchment is expected to hit the market on July 1 after the Columbus Blue Jackets were unable to reach a contract extension with the 6‑foot‑5 forward. TSN insider Pierre LeBrun said, "my understanding is that Montreal and Toronto are potential fits for Mason Marchment," naming both Canadian clubs as interested parties.

Marchment, who began his professional career in Toronto’s system and later flourished with the Florida Panthers before joining Columbus, posted 19 goals and 26 assists (45 points) in 68 games this season, including a surge of 15 goals and 32 points in his last 39 games. He recorded 84 hits and a plus‑17 rating, prompting analysts to project a three‑year deal worth about $5.7 million AAV. The Blue Jackets have not closed the door on him, but are preparing for his free‑agency departure.

If signed, the Leafs could add size and secondary scoring to their forward group, potentially slotting Marchment on the second line or power‑play unit. The potential reunion would also reverse the Leafs’ earlier decision to trade him after his brief four‑game stint with Toronto in 2019‑20.
