Toronto Maple Leafs face roster challenges as John Tavares sidelined
Toronto Maple Leafs centre John Tavares is sidelined with a week-to-week lower-body injury. The 36-year-old sustained the injury following a collision with Buffalo Sabres forward Josh Norris during a recent game. The injury designation suggests Tavares could miss up to six weeks of action.
In response to the injury, the Maple Leafs have placed Tavares on injured reserve and recalled centre Vinni Lettieri from the AHL Toronto Marlies to bolster the roster. This loss follows a similar injury to veteran defenceman Chris Tanev, who is also listed as week-to-week with an upper-body injury.
Additionally, reports indicate the Maple Leafs are actively exploring the trade market for a defenseman. The team is reportedly seeking a “difference-maker” on the blue line and is willing to offer premium assets to secure a high-impact player rather than a temporary solution.
