Toronto Maple Leafs GM addresses Knies and Rielly trade rumors
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka has addressed recent trade speculation regarding key players Matthew Knies and Morgan Rielly.
Regarding Knies, Chayka clarified that while previous management had engaged in trade discussions that could have sent the 23-year-old power forward to the Montreal Canadiens, the current front office has no interest in continuing those talks. Chayka noted that while the team evaluates all options to improve the roster, moving a top young player is “not probable.” Knies is expected to play a significant role on the team's top line this season.
Chayka also dismissed rumors concerning veteran defenseman Morgan Rielly, stating that the team never had a “serious trade opportunity” for him this summer. Despite Rielly being linked to potential moves following a period of offensive decline, Chayka emphasized that the organization highly values the player. The team expects Rielly’s puck-moving style to integrate well with the system under new head coach Jim Hiller.
