Toronto Maple Leafs see rookie buzz and injury updates

Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Gavin McKenna is drawing significant attention following his preseason debut. Analysts suggest the high-end skill shown by the 18-year-old could lead to him playing on a line with captain Auston Matthews in the near future. During his limited time on the ice, McKenna demonstrated an ability to create scoring opportunities for veteran John Tavares and earned trust from head coach Jim Hiller by participating in late-game situations.

Separately, Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka addressed the absence of forward Dakota Joshua from recent training camp practices. Joshua has been sidelined due to an ongoing core injury and is currently considered day-to-day. His availability remains a point of interest as the team evaluates its bottom-six forward group ahead of the regular season.
