Toronto Maple Leafs sign Swedish defenseman Emil Andrae to two-year deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced they have signed 24‑year‑old Swedish defenseman Emil Andrae to a two‑year contract reportedly worth US$3.1 million, with an annual cap hit of about $1.55 million. Andrae, a second‑round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, joined Toronto in a June 16 trade that sent goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit to the Philadelphia Flyers, along with a 2026 third‑round pick, while the Leafs received Andrae, goaltender Samuel Ersson and a 2026 third‑round pick.

In the 2025‑26 season, Andrae posted 13 points (2 goals, 11 assists) in 61 games for the Flyers. Over his NHL career he has recorded 20 points in 107 games. The signing is part of a broader roster revamp by general manager John Chayka, who also added goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and several forwards earlier in the off‑season.
