Torre de’ Picenardi Focaccia Chisóola Receives First Municipal Denomination
The municipality of Torre de’ Picenardi held a ceremony on Friday to award the first Denominazione Comunale (DE.CO.) to the traditional focaccia known as “Chisóola de Li Tùr”. The designation follows a council approval in November 2025 and a subsequent mayoral decree, aiming to promote and protect the town’s gastronomic heritage.
Mayor Marcello Volpi, who also chairs the DE.CO. commission, highlighted that the focaccia’s recipe has been passed down through the Deantoni family since 1966. Ivan Deantoni described the product as a light, layered “focaccia unta”, prepared by him and his sister Nadia using the family’s century‑old methods. Marco Petecchi, consultant for the Accademia Italiana della Cucina, praised the initiative as a vital step to safeguard Italian culinary traditions both domestically and abroad.
The move joins broader efforts to celebrate regional breads such as the Barese focaccia, a soft dough topped with tomatoes, olives and extra‑virgin olive oil, which continues to be shared across Italy’s culinary landscape.
