Torre del Greco celebrates maritime heritage at Festival del Mare

The first part of the Festival del Mare in Torre del Greco concluded successfully following events held on September 17 and 18. Centered near the Santa Maria di Portosalvo parish, the festival aimed to highlight the sea as a vital economic and cultural resource for the city.

The program featured musical performances by the Acmt band, Posteggia Nova, and Luna Ianara, alongside historical reenactments and oral traditions shared by Antonio Quartuccio. Cultural exhibits included photography by Francesco Sangiovanni, Rosario Pomposo, and Aliberti, as well as paintings by Gennaro Restino, all focused on the lives of local fishermen.

Attendees also participated in tastings of local seafood specialties. Local officials, including Mayor Luigi Mennella and Councilor Antonio Crispino, noted the positive reception of the event. Further initiatives are planned to begin in October, shifting focus from history and tradition to the present and future of the maritime sector.
