Torre del Greco driver sentenced to 10 years for fatal police crash

Severino Tommaso has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in a first-degree ruling following a fatal traffic accident in Torre del Greco. The incident, which occurred between October 31 and November 1, 2025, resulted in the death of police chief assistant Aniello Scarpati and left officer Ciro Cozzolino seriously injured.

Investigators determined that the defendant was driving a SUV at high speed on viale Europa when he struck the police vehicle, forcing it off the road. The prosecution from Torre Annunziata highlighted that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time of the collision.

Following the impact, the driver and other occupants reportedly failed to provide assistance, with reports indicating the driver lit a cigarette before fleeing the scene. The 10-year sentence was granted through an abbreviated trial procedure, reducing the initial 12-year request for vehicular homicide and charges of failure to render aid.
