Montalbano Jonico man dies after accidental shooting by brother

A 37-year-old man, Vincenzo D’Orsi, has died following an accidental shooting in the countryside of Montalbano Jonico, Matera. The incident occurred when D’Orsi and his brother were using rifles to frighten away wild boars that were threatening local crops.

During the attempt to intimidate the animals, a shot fired by the brother accidentally struck D’Orsi in the head. He was urgently transported via helicopter to the San Carlo hospital in Potenza, where he underwent neurosurgery and was placed in a medically induced coma. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

The local mayor, Giuseppe Di Sanzo, has declared a period of municipal mourning to honor the deceased. Carabinieri from Policoro are currently investigating the exact dynamics of the event to clarify how the shot was discharged.
