Torre Parque Ávila demolition blocks Avenida Francisco de Miranda

On Saturday, 1 August, the Chacao municipality announced that vehicular traffic on Avenida Francisco de Miranda will be restricted while a controlled demolition of the façade of Torre Parque Ávila (formerly Torre HP) is carried out. The work is part of the safety measures implemented after the devastating earthquakes of 24 June, which caused building collapses, fatalities and left thousands homeless in La Guaira, Caracas and surrounding states.

Mayor Gustavo Duque reported that dozens of structures have been classified with red, yellow or green safety tags, and urged residents and visitors to use alternate routes and follow the instructions of officials on site. He also called on affected families to register with municipal and national authorities to receive housing assistance.
