Torregrotta to receive 2.5 million euro flood prevention works

The Sicilian Region's structure for combating hydrogeological instability has launched a tender for hydraulic improvements in Torregrotta, located in the province of Messina. The project, with a budget of 2.5 million euros, aims to secure the town center by regulating rainwater runoff and preventing flooding.

For years, residents have faced significant risks during heavy rainfall, as runoff carries debris, mud, and stones through streets such as Via Crocieri and Viale Europa. Current drainage systems have proven inadequate, with high pressure causing inspection manhole covers to fail and leading to road closures.

The planned intervention includes constructing a reinforced concrete structure to replace the existing channel and metal grates, as well as installing new spiral polyethylene piping to replace outdated conduits. The deadline for submitting bids is November 5.
