Torremolinos to develop digital twin for urban management

The Torremolinos City Council has been selected by Red.es to develop a digital twin of the city as part of the 2025 Smart Cities and Territories Program. The project aims to create a virtual replica of the municipality, powered by real-time data, to simulate urban scenarios such as large-scale events, population fluctuations, service demand peaks, and mobility issues.

This tool will allow local authorities to test solutions in a digital environment before implementing them in the physical city, shifting urban management from a reactive to a preventive model. The initiative is particularly relevant for Torremolinos due to the significant seasonal variations in its tourism-driven economy and population.

The total investment for the project is 1,930,858 euros. Red.es will provide 85% of the funding (1,641,229.30 euros) through FEDER funds, while the City Council will cover the remaining 15% (289,628.70 euros). The project proposal was designed entirely by municipal technicians.
