Torreón City Council approves land donation for real estate fraud victims

The Torreón City Council has unanimously approved the donation of municipal land to assist 27 families who fell victim to what is being called a ‘real estate cartel.’ The donation involves 5,804.62 square meters of land located in the Latinoamericana neighborhood, which will be transferred to the State Housing Commission (CEV).

Once the State Congress approves the process of removing the property from the municipal assets, the CEV will be authorized to subdivide the land and offer lots to the affected families at an affordable price. The total estimated patrimonial damage caused by the fraud exceeds 50 million pesos.

Local officials expressed solidarity with the victims, noting that the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) is currently investigating those responsible for the fraudulent sale of land and housing. Officials clarified that there is no ongoing internal investigation within the municipal administration regarding the matter.
