Mayor Miguel Ángel Riquelme advances security upgrades and transport overhaul in Torreón

Mayor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís announced a series of upgrades to Torreón’s public safety infrastructure, including the acquisition of 40 new patrol vehicles, additional armaments, ammunition and training for municipal police forces. He highlighted the city’s video‑surveillance network of more than 2,000 cameras, which is integrated with state systems to improve response times, facial and vehicle identification, and crime prevention.

In parallel, the mayor began a comprehensive review of the municipal public‑transport system, meeting with state transport officials and private operators to assess current conditions. He indicated that Torreón is close to presenting a new mobility plan that will define a modern fare‑collection system, route organization and the introduction of air‑conditioned buses meeting updated safety and comfort standards. The plan aims to address the slowdown caused by the COVID‑19 pandemic and to set clear operating rules for any external providers that wish to serve the city.
