Torreón officials distribute tarpaulins following heavy rains
Municipal and state officials in Torreón, Coahuila, have distributed heavy-duty black rubber sheeting and tarpaulins to families affected by recent heavy rains. The relief efforts, aimed at addressing water leaks in homes, were documented by local leaders in various sectors, including the Ampliación Camilo Torres neighborhood.
City councilman Raúl Alejandro Garza del Valle shared videos of himself delivering materials to residents, stating his intention to work closely with the community. Local deputy Felipe González also participated in the distribution, representing the efforts of Governor Manolo Jiménez and Mayor Miguel Ángel Riquelme.
The response has drawn mixed reactions on social media. While some recognized the support, many citizens criticized the adequacy of the aid, using irony and sarcasm to question whether plastic sheets and tarpaulins are sufficient to address the broader infrastructure and drainage issues caused by the rainfall. Official reports indicate that over twenty sectors in Torreón have experienced flooding and water accumulation.
