Torreón rejects arming traffic agents, focuses on wages and training

The municipal government of Torreón has rejected the proposal to arm traffic and road safety agents. Instead, authorities have opted to focus on strengthening the corporation through improved labor conditions, better equipment, and enhanced training.

Mayor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís stated that while agents have faced aggressive behavior from citizens, the strategy relies on constant coordination with the Municipal Public Security Directorate to provide immediate support during incidents. The administration is prioritizing salary increases, better benefits, and the acquisition of new operational equipment, such as uniforms and patrol units, to professionalize the force and combat corruption.

Additionally, the city has launched a recruitment drive to bring in new personnel. The goal is to ensure agents can focus on traffic regulation and accident prevention while maintaining high service standards for motorists.
