Torrent and Texas announce disaster relief funds for housing repairs

Local authorities in Torrent, Spain, and Texas, United States, have announced financial aid programs to assist residents recovering from recent natural disasters.

In Torrent, the City Council has allocated 900,000 euros to support families whose primary residences suffered severe damage during the DANA floods on October 29, 2024. The funds, provided via a subsidy from the Spanish Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption, and 2030 Agenda, are available for one month. Mayor Amparo Folgado stated the measures aim to accelerate the recovery process for those most affected.

In Texas, the General Land Office (GLO) is offering reimbursements of up to $75,000 to homeowners who paid out-of-pocket for repairs following Hurricane Beryl and other 2024 disasters. The Homeowner Reimbursement Program has $43.1 million allocated, with payouts ranging from $3,000 to $75,000 for traditional homes and up to $50,000 for manufactured housing. Officials warned that funds are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
