Torrent Gas agent and contractor booked for damaging power cable in Chennai

Avadi police have registered a case against a Torrent Gas agent, a contractor, and a driver following an incident that damaged a 33 KV underground feeder cable in Paruthipattu. The damage occurred around 11:20 pm on September 6 during pipeline-laying excavation work near Everwin School.

The incident caused power disruptions affecting the Paruthipattu substation and its feeders, impacting areas including Avadi and Kamaraj Nagar. TNPDCL personnel have since repaired the line and restored the power supply.

The legal action follows directives from Energy and Law Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar, who instructed officials to take action against contractors responsible for damaging underground infrastructure during civic works. During a pre-monsoon preparedness review, the Minister emphasized the need for precautionary measures to prevent avoidable power outages caused by road excavation and other development activities.
